Iron Man Review
What I Liked:
1. Fantastic special effects. There weren’t too many moments that looked fake enough to put you off.
2. Tony Stark is a refreshing change from some other recent super-heroes. (emo Peter Parker for example)
3. Gwyneth Paltrow is great as the assistant.
4. Has some clever combat moments.
5. There’s some neat gadgets, and Iron Man’s suit is cool.
What I Didn’t Like:
1. Iron Man having to fight another “Iron Man” seems like an uncreative cop-out. Just like how in the next Hulk movie, Hulk has to fight another “Hulk”.
2. The story feels very generic once it moves out of Afghanistan in the beginning.
3. We see so many scenes of Tony Stark learning how to operate his suit through trial and error, yet the man who operates the other Iron suit can operate it with precision on the first attempt. (same applies for Stark in the beginning while escaping from Afghanistan)
Yay or Gay: Nothing really stands out either way, beyond what’s already mentioned.
Final BS Rating: +2 PRETTY GOOD
Closing Statement: I never read Iron Man comics, and I don’t read comics now. I went into this with no expectations and only a basic idea of the character involved. Having said that, I enjoyed the movie. It was good, but nothing ground-breaking.

Orson Welles’ “Chimes at Midnight” arrived in my mailbox the same week “Iron Man” came out and the dichotomy couldn’t be clearer. One is an artful, intelligent film, the other a comic book with all the superficiality and special effects necessary to appeal to a fourteen year old mindset (the average mental age of film goers these days, it seems). “Chimes” will still be watched and studied 50 years from now whereas “Iron Man”…

Cliff, I’ve never seen “Chimes at Midnight” so I have to take your word on it.
“Iron Man” is definitely just a “popcorn and Coke” movie, nothing ground-breaking at all about it. I’m not a serious reviewer or film buff, so I enjoyed it. It was good for what it is.
I saw a preview for “Don’t Mess With The Zohan” or whatever it’s called. The new one with Adam Sandler as an Israeli Mossad agent who goes to the US to be a hairdresser… Wow, there’s one that will definitely appeal to the 14 year old mindset you mentioned!

Maybe I’m getting old, Wayne, but I just don’t have time for these dopey summer movies any more. How can you watch crap after sitting through Dreyer’s “Vampyr” with your mouth hanging open in awe? I’ve made it my mission to fill in my film education with great films from the past, so comic book adaptations are OFF my list. Lang, Murnau, Bunuel, the recent re-release of “Army of Shadows”…my skin tingles at the thought of artists/films of that caliber.
Write on, man…

I understand Cliff. I’m just not that into the finer art of film making. I can appreciate a well shot scene and things like that, but for me movies are just a fun thing to do. Like video games. I wouldn’t say I was in the “bottom rung” of movie goers, but sometimes it’s fun to play it up like I am.
I honestly haven’t even heard of any of those movies and people you mentioned. (except Orson Welles) It’s just how I am, I’m not sure if I could enjoy those films on the same level as you.
I’m glad you took time to leave some comments. It’s so refreshing to hear from someone who is completely different from the typical Youtube commenter. You know the kind, they’re the ones that only seem to know how to to type “ur ghey” or “ur fat”. In other words, it’s great to actually get a comment from someone who has intelligence. Even if they might not agree with me or like the same things, it’s still very refreshing.
So thanks buddy. Thumbs up!

Wayne:
This blog is fucking brilliant. I just found it by total accident and I’ve had a little read through and it’s the best I’ve read in ages. So many folk write serious reviews, yours have a great humour element.
I tip my hat to you, Sir. Great work. I hope to be able to contribute myself to it in the future.

Thanks J.A.F.O
Glad you stopped by to have a look. Hope you continue to like my reviews and stuff. I have a few more I need to add at some point actually.
I’ve always hated reviewers who took themselves too seriously or reviews in general too seriously, so here’s my little contribution to counter that.
Feel free to chime in anytime with a comment, opinion or whatever man. It’s all for fun here.
